The History of the 35th Regiment New York Infantry in the Civil War (also known as the Jefferson County Regiment)

the 35th Regiment New York Infantry was organized mainly in Jefferson County (with one company coming from the Cazenovia, NY area). This history is contains articles from Jefferson County News of Adams, NY and the New York Daily Reformer of Watertown, NY. These articles were letters written to the newspapers from the men serving in the 35th telling about the day-to-day activities and events that they experiences in the Civil War. The book also contains reminiscences of Colonel Sidney Mendell, a report of the Regiments Re-union in 1887 and a complete roster which includes the following information where known (dates and placed of birth and death; enlistment and discharge; if wounded, when and severity, if later died of wounds; killed in battle; died of disease; and much more).

History of the Town of Henderson as a whole, the village of Henderson, Henderson Harbor, Smithville (the village is half in the town of Henderson and half in the town of Adams, the entire community is covered regardless of the town it falls in), Alexander Corners, Association Island, Bishop Street, Butterville, Roberts Corners, Stony Point. The Galloup Island (Stony, Calf, Gallou, and Little Gallou) are in the Town of Hounsfield, but are closer in proximity to Henderson and most of the residents had close ties to Henderson, so the history of these islands is included here). Reprint of the 1922 book 'The Story of the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad' by Edward Hungerford
   The R.W. &O. Railroad played a very important part in the history and development of northern New York. Edward Hungerford was one of the leading authorities on American railroading and wrote the only comprehensive history of the R.W.&O. Railroad. The original book is very difficult to find. The Historical Association of South Jefferson has reprinted the text exactly as written in the original book. We have added several more photos than contained in the original, mostly the depots in Jefferson and Oswego Counties. This book is a must for anyone interested in the history of Northern New York.

Memories of the Old Homestead - by Henry H. Lyman
 originally written in 1900 by Henry Lyman, reprinted in 2001 by the Hist. Assoc. of South Jefferson.
This is a history of Henry Lyman's early life growing up in the town of Lorraine. He tells what life was like growing up on the farm in the 1840's and 50's.  Chapters include - the homestead and how the family came to settle here, maple sugaring, farming by the seasons, the one-room district school, church, amusements, and much more. Excellent resource for anyone interested in learning about life on the farm in the mid-1800's.

History of the 10th Regiment NY Heavy Artillery
A comprehensive history of the Regiment from its formation at Sackets Harbor to Appomattox. Details the regiments movements and battles. Includes lists, by company, of all men enlisted at the time of its muster, and casualty lists. The Regiment was comprised mostly of men from Jefferson County, New York. Written by Capt. Walter Webb, who helped to organize the regiment.
